Turn discoveries into a journal
Give each outing a page with a date, location description and weather note. Draw one find and record its color, shape or texture. If you do not know its name, describe it rather than guessing.
Use a reliable local field guide to investigate later. Return to the same place to observe changes over time. Let participants compare their notes without making the activity a competition, and leave the place as you found it.
